Highland County Maple Sugar Festival

Take a step back in time to Highland County, "Virginia's Sweet Spot." Travel scenic back roads and majestic mountain byways to the annual Highland Maple Festival. Held on the 2nd and 3rd weekends of March, the Maple Festival has been an annual event in Highland County since 1958 and designated a "Local Legacy" by the Library of Congress in 1999.

Each year, tens of thousands of visitors are drawn to this unspoiled, rural region of Virginia to celebrate the "opening" of the trees and observe the process of maple syrup-making. Sugar camp tours provide a unique and educational experience that portrays a rapidly vanishing way of American life.

Cask for a Cause - Brothers Craft Brewing

March's Cask for a Cause will be benefiting the Valley Program for Aging Services, which is an on-profit organization that serves adults 60 years and older by providing programs that support independent living and healthy aging.

In addition, we will have live music from Cory Campbell.
Born in Virginia and raised in NYC, Cory has the soul of the south and the edge of Manhattan. Drawing comparison to John Mayer, Jackson Browne & Eric Clapton, this young artist is on the rise with a sound that is fresh but somehow familiar.

Come out to help out this wonderful cause by buying a pint from their cask and participating in the silent auction for the framed poster for the event. All proceeds from the cask and the silent auction will go to the VPAS and their cause.

Edith J Carrier Arboretum Arbor - Wildflowers of Spain

Brown Bag Lunch Lecture
Wildflowers of Spain
Speaker, Rae Lynn Kasdan

The Picos de Europa is a mountainous region on the north coast of Spain, and it's also the name of a national park that straddles three provinces. It is part of "green Spain" as the geography is influenced by the Atlantic and the climate is cool and moist. The scenery is spectacular and dominated by mountains ranging from 500- 8700 feet. The Picos is considered by some to be one of the last truly wild places in Europe and is an area of great biodiversity.

Traveler Rae Lynn Kasdan will share her experience of exploring this incredible region over the course of an 8-day excursion, showcasing the blooming wildflowers found there.

Bring your lunch and join us in the Frances Plecker Education Center! Free event.
